Summary
Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry offers consumers substrates for iontoponics, in which nutrients are supplied to plants in a form chemically bound to a solid carrier - ion exchanger - and plant nutrition is carried out by ion exchange of plant metabolites for mineral ions under a manufacturing agreement and/or a licensing agreement, and is looking for partners interested in a distribution services agreement.
Description
Currently, indoor crop production is becoming a high-tech area of the economy, acquiring features of industrial production. Plant nutrition is mainly carried out by programmatic dosing of multi-component nutrient solutions. The main disadvantage of such systems is the complexity and high technological saturation of plant growing installations. A new step in the development of crop production is ionoponics - a recently developed technology in which nutrients are supplied to plants in a form chemically bound to a solid carrier - ion exchanger - and plant nutrition is carried out by ion exchange of plant metabolites for mineral ions. "Biona" is such a substrate.

A nutrient medium for growing any types of plants; an additive to various types of soils, natural soils, sands. "Biona" plays the role of humus of natural soils. It can be used in pure form or as an additive to any soils, soils or sand. At the same time, only watering with water is enough to grow plants from seed to seed.

Application area:
- crop production of any level; cloning and adaptation;
- solving plant growing problems in various industries, including high-tech and environmental areas (for example, growing plants from cell cultures, cloning;
- growing seedlings; growing indoor plants; rooting cuttings; restoring the nutritional properties of depleted soils without replanting plants).

In addition to the use of ion-exchange substrates in traditional plant growing, the issue of growing plants in spacecraft is currently becoming relevant, for which the use of ion-exchange nutrient media is a real prospect.

Information is posted in  Album of promising developments of the NAS of Belarus organizations for the real sector of the economy (2023), p. 169-170. (in Russian)
Advantages and Innovations
It has no complete analogues; replaces highly productive plant growing media (coconut substrate, etc.) and complex fertilizers with prolonged action (Osmokot, etc.).

Ion-exchange substrates can be made in the form of granules or textile products. The substrate, insoluble in water, contains in optimal proportions a full set of nutrients necessary for plants (macroelements - K, Ca, Mg, N, P, S and microelements - Fe, Na, Cu, Ni, Co, Mo, B, etc.). All nutrients in the substrate are chemically bound to ionites and cannot be washed out with water. They are released only at the "request" of the plant, exchanging the released metabolites in the root system for an equivalent amount of nutrients. In this regard, root burn, overdose of nutrients and their removal from the root zone with excessive watering are impossible. The ion-exchange substrate "Biona" contains 4-8% by weight of nutrients. It has been established that without adding fertilizers, up to 3 kg of green biomass (0.2 kg of dry biomass) can be obtained from 1 kg of substrate, which significantly exceeds all known environments for growing plants. This allows for intensive plant growing for 3-5 years of continuous use of the substrate without adding fertilizers. The addition of 1% of the ion-exchange substrate "Biona" to barren sand is equivalent in productivity to commercial soils.

The production technology of "Biona" substrates is environmentally safe. "Biona" is non-toxic, can be in contact with human skin without negative consequences, and is non-flammable. It does not contain phytohormones, growth accelerators, herbicides or other chemicals that are potentially dangerous to humans.

A substrate for growing plants using ionoponics technology, requiring only timely watering.

Additional comments
The Institute is a world leader in the development, production and use of ion-exchange fibrous materials and artificial substrates for plant cultivation. The Institute's work in the field of membranes and membrane technologies is widely known. Membrane materials for ultra- and microfiltration in the form of continuous webs and capillaries, cassette, roll and hollow fiber elements for use in energy, food, pharmaceutical, electronic and other industries have been developed and manufactured.

The Institute's scientists have discovered and studied the reactions of: heterocyclization of azomethines with carbonyl compounds, hydroamination of oxygen-containing compounds, initiated decarboxylation of mercury acylates, construction of an isothiazole cycle from 2-nitropentachlorobutadiene and sulfur. Convenient methods for synthesizing benzoquinolines, amines, pyridines, organomercury compounds, electrochemical methods for obtaining p-complexes of transition metals, methods for synthesizing various functional substituted organohalogen compounds, carboranes and peroxides have been developed.

The catalysts developed at the Institute have been implemented at the largest chemical plants. An antiblock composition preventing cellophane film from sticking together during its production has been implemented on an industry-wide scale. An industrial radiation-chemical technology for obtaining the blood plasma substitutes "Rondeks" and "Neorondex" has been developed.

The Institute's activities are aimed at developing scientific principles and technologies for creating new polymeric materials with special properties (selectively permeable, sorption, ion-exchange, catalytically active) for use in industry, ecology, agriculture, water treatment; development of methods for the synthesis and technologies for obtaining medicinal substances based on amino acids and their derivatives, biologically active substances and compositions for medicine and agriculture, functionally substituted organic and organoelement compounds.

The Institute carries out international scientific and technical cooperation within the framework of direct agreements with scientific institutions of Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Sweden, China, etc. Much attention is paid to the implementation of contracts for the conduct of research and development work and the manufacture of high-tech commercial products based on its own developments with organizations and firms in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Korea, Russia, and the USA.
