Summary
SSU "Scientific Instrumentation" of the Powder Metallurgy Institute offers technology and equipment for applying polymer coating on surgical suture. The organization is ready to supply unsterile polyparaksilylene coated suture material under manufacturing agreement.
Description
SSU "Scientific Instrumentation" developed technology and equipment for applying polymer coating on surgical suture from conventional materials (natural silk, capron, loven, etc.) in order to improve their main characteristics: mechanical strength, chemical resistance, friction coefficient, hydrophobicity, bioeriness, atraumaticness, etc.
Polymer coatings are applied by environmentally friendly method - vacuum gas phase polymerization. The coating process occur at normal temperatures, which eliminates the possibility of damage to the suture.
The coating with a thickness of 5 to several tens of microns is applied in one operation; the coating does not contain point holes (micro voids); thickness surriety and uniformity is provided on any surfaces.
The equipment can produce a thread with a metric size of 1 to 8 (diameter from 0,1..0,8 mm); length of packaged segments - up to 5000 m; equipment performance - up to 40 kg of thread per month. The equipment is fully automated using industrial controllers.
Main features of polyparaksilylene coating:
* weight less compared to other coatings or compounds;
* operating temperature from -100 to +1500 C (in air) and up to +400 (in the absence of oxygen);
* resistance to radiation;
* low friction coefficient;
* biological compatibility;
* chemical inertness to organic solvents, acids, alkalis;
* low moisture and gas permeability;
* excellent electrical insulation properties;
* compatibility with materials used in electronic modules and lacquer coatings;
* good maintainability of the coating.
Unsterile surgical suture are sterilized using gamma rays and are used to connect soft and tightening dense tissues in surgery, as well as raw materials for the manufacture of suture material and ligature.

Advantages and Innovations
Unsterile sutures are comparable to products manufactured in Belarus by "Fiatos", "Footberg", "Ergon Est" but have smaller linear density, diameter and high bioerity at the same breaking strength.
