Additional comments
Currently, V.A. Belyi Metal Polymer Research Institute is an academic scientific and technical complex working in the direction of fundamental and applied research in two main scientific areas:

1) physical and chemical foundations for the development of composite materials based on organic and inorganic polymers;
2) physics, chemistry and surface mechanics, analysis of contact interactions, friction, wear and lubrication in technical and biological systems.

Within these areas, the Institute is a leading research and production complex in such areas as:

- interfacial phenomena in polymer-polymer and metal-polymer systems;
- weather resistance and prediction of durability of polymer composites;
- adaptive materials and designs;
- physics and chemistry of lubricating action;
- methods of sealing and filtration;
- methods for calculating products made of composite materials;
- recycling of multicomponent polymer systems;
- physics and technology of thin films;
- methods of surface analysis, description and classification of its topography at the micro- and nanolevel, solving contact and thermal problems of tribology;
- space tribology;
- friction and lubrication of natural and artificial joints;
- diagnostics and monitoring of machine friction units.

The most significant practical results have been achieved in the field of polymer materials science. Research by the Institute's scientists has made it possible to significantly expand the range of domestic polymer composites and products. Several dozen import-substituting and export-oriented polymer composite materials have been created for mechanical engineering, the electrical industry and the agricultural complex.

In recent years, in the field of polymer materials science, more than 40 brands of import-substituting and export-oriented polymer composite materials have been created for mechanical engineering, the electrical industry, construction and the agricultural complex. Serial production of a number of materials has been mastered at the enterprises of the Belneftekhim concern. Products based on many developments are supplied by the Institute for export, primarily to Russia.

In the field of tribology, ideas about the structure of a rough layer, the morphology of friction surfaces and wear particles have been developed, a number of calculation methods and models of discrete friction contact, thermal dynamics of friction, and computer modeling of contact interaction of solid bodies have been created. Based on fundamental research in this area, a number of new methods for analyzing the surface layers of materials, including at the micro- and nanolevel, have been developed.

Every year, work is carried out under contracts with CIS countries and foreign countries (Russia, Ukraine, USA, France, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Poland, etc.) for the development and supply of scientific equipment, new materials and technologies.
