Summary
A technology for applying superhard wear-resistant coatings on watch parts based on diamond-like carbon obtained from pulsed arc discharge plasma is proposed. The institute is looking for industrial partners or R&D organizations for commercial agreement with technical assistance, license agreement, or research cooperation agreement.
Description
Methods of pulsed cathode-arc deposition in a vacuum are used to apply diamond-like carbon coatings on the axles of watch movements, washers-linings in the anti-shock balance mechanism of wristwatches using group application technology.
Specifications:
* coating thickness 0.3..0.5 µm
* hardness 60 GPa
* wear resistance 3*10-7 mm3/(N.m)
* coefficient of friction with steel 0.05..0.1.

Advantages and Innovations
Coating prevents premature wear of gears, reduces the likelihood of jamming, increases the life of the watch. Steel washers with a diamond-like coating are used to replace the ruby stones of the anti-shock mechanism of the balance of the watch.
