Description
Areas of application - hardening technology (nitriding, carburization and nitrocarburization), which increases the durability of the external and internal surfaces of parts made of steel, cast iron, titanium alloys.
Ionic chemical-thermal treatment technologies strengthen critical parts of machines, hydraulics, precision mechanics, gears, rotors, plungers and cylinders of pumps, threaded locks, rods, rods, couplings, shut-off valves, axles, shafts, screws and extruder cylinders, mandrels, molds for cold and hot processing of metal, plastics, glass and rubber , drills, taps, reamers, cutters, broaches, cutters and other products.
Hardening treatment of metal materials (steels, cast irons, titanium alloys), increasing wear resistance and durability of parts made of cemented, tempered, low- and medium-alloy steels, cutting and stamping tools, casting equipment, including internal surfaces.

Advantages and Innovations
There are no competitors in the countries of Eastern Europe in the development of technologies and the creation of equipment.
When processing metals in a glow discharge, the rate of their saturation with nitrogen and carbon is 5–15 times higher than during gas chemical treatment. After nitriding of steels, surface microhardness НV0.05 660–1300 and layer depth are achieved 100–800 µm. Processing of titanium alloys ensures a surface microhardness HV0.05 of 750–1100 and a layer depth of 100–150 μm.

Equipment and technologies are completely environmentally friendly.

Independent control of the composition, flow rate of the gas mixture (N2, H2 and Ar) and pressure in the chamber makes it possible to form hardened layers of a given composition and depth on products made from different grades of steel and titanium alloys, as well as
implement multi-stage processes in terms of temperature and gas flow.

The part processing mode is selected automatically after entering the following information: material grade, design documentation requirements for layer depth and hardness. Control of the operation of the installation and control of the processing process is carried out automatically according to a given program using a specialized controller and computer.

Equipment of the required type (chamber, bell or shaft) and overall dimensions (working space diameter up to 2000 mm, loading depth (height) up to 3000 mm, dimensions can be increased) are developed and manufactured). The weight of the cage is from 200 to 3000 kg.

The Physical-Technical Institute is the leading scientific institution of the Republic of Belarus in the field of creating resource-saving and automated production, developing technologies for creating new materials, robotics and intelligent control systems and highly efficient security systems.

Coatings, application technologies and equipment:
- protective coatings, the purpose of which is to protect parts from corrosion in various aggressive environments, including at high temperatures;
- protective and decorative coatings used for decorative finishing of parts with simultaneous protection against corrosion;
- special coatings used to impart special properties to the surface (wear resistance, hardness, electrical insulation, magnetic properties, etc.), as well as restoration of worn parts.

Foundry technologies.
Foundry is a branch of mechanical engineering engaged in the production of shaped parts and blanks by pouring molten metal into a mold, the cavity of which has the configuration of the required part. During the casting process, upon cooling, the metal in the mold hardens and a cast is obtained - a finished part or workpiece, which, if necessary (increasing dimensional accuracy and reducing roughness), is subjected to subsequent machining. In this regard, the foundry is faced with the task of producing castings whose dimensions and shape are as close as possible to the dimensions and shape of the finished part.

Industrial surface engineering technologies:
- ionic chemical-thermal treatment;
- laser processing of materials;

New materials.
New materials are composite materials such as carbon fiber plastics, fiberglass plastics, basalt plastics, aramid plastics and metal composites, high-tech ceramics - aluminum, zirconium, oxide, nitride, carbide ceramics and others, new building materials - new insulating materials from foam glass, road surface modifiers for based on rubber powder or polymer fibers, new types of concrete.

Metal forming.
Technologies involve changing the shapes and sizes of workpieces due to the influence of external forces on them, followed by maintaining the result. After the pressure stops, the shape and dimensions of the product do not change. In order to increase ductility, the metal is heated to a certain temperature before starting pressure treatment. For each type of material, this temperature is determined individually, depending on its specific physical and chemical characteristics.
