The Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is the country's leading research center in the field of economic science.
The Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is actively working towards the development of practical recommendations on socio-economic policy for the Government of the Republic of Belarus, acting as a scientific expert on the most important scientific, scientific, technical and national economic programs, innovative projects, as well as draft regulatory legal acts on economics.
The Institute's field of activity includes international cooperation with foreign scientific institutions on issues of economic science, generalization and practical use of the achievements of world economic thought. The Institute regularly hosts international scientific conferences and seminars, and prepares major scientific publications on current issues of socio-economic development. The Institute of Economics pays special attention to international scientific cooperation and maintains working contacts with scientific institutes and universities of economic profile in Azerbaijan, Spain, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
The Institute maintains especially close and fruitful contacts with related Russian and Ukrainian organizations, with which agreements on creative cooperation have been concluded. These include the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Market Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Regional Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, etc.
Within the framework of the general strategic direction “Scientific substantiation of mechanisms for increasing the competitiveness of the Belarusian economy in the context of globalization,” five main thematic blocks of research have been identified:
- theory and methodology for the development of the national socio-economic model;
- institutional and financial mechanisms in the system of macroeconomic regulation;
- theory and mechanisms for the formation of an effective national innovation system;
- scientific foundations of the foreign economic strategy of the Republic of Belarus;
- social processes in economic development.
The research topics correspond to the priorities of socio-economic development of the Republic of Belarus for 2016-2020, defined by the Program of socio-economic development of the Republic of Belarus for 2016-2020, as well as the priority areas of scientific research of the Republic of Belarus for 2016-2020, approved by the Resolution of the Council Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated March 12, 2015 No. 190 (clause 11 Society and economy).
Carrying out these studies allows the Institute of Economics to maintain the status of the leading scientific organization in the country, developing fundamental problems of economic theory and business practice in various spheres and sectors of the economy, to continue the development of scientific schools of economic theory, macroeconomics, innovative economics, world economy and international economic relations, regional economics.
The Institute also actively participates in scientific support of government bodies on issues of economic policy pursued in the country, and carries out applied economic research carried out on request and in the interests of business entities.
