Summary
The Polessian Institute of Plant Growing offers consumers the variety VIVALEN 3218 under a license agreement, seed material under a manufacturing agreement and is looking for partners interested in a distribution services agreement.
Description
Authors: Shimansky L.P., Kravtsov V.I., Govor E.M., Govor T.M., Turovets V.N. Applicant: RNDUP "POLESKY INSTITUTE OF PLANT CULTIVATION". Year of inclusion in the state register of varieties: 2022/
Morphological characteristics: Plants in the period of milky ripeness have grains of average height (250.0-274.9 cm). The stem is smooth or very slightly curved. Anthocyanin coloration of the leaf sheath above the upper ear
absent or very weak, internodes of the stem and aerial roots are weak. The leaves are green, slightly curved, medium wavy. The flowering time of the panicle is early to mid. The anthocyanin coloration of the panicle glumes, their bases and anthers is weak, the silk is absent to weak. The lateral branches of the panicle at the end of flowering are of medium length to long, no or slightly curved, located at an angle to the main axis from small to medium, their number is small. The upper cob is conical-cylindrical in shape, medium in size, on a short stalk. Anthocyanin coloration of the cob scales is of medium intensity. The grain is tooth-shaped, the upper and lower parts of the grain are yellow-orange.
Economic and biological characteristics: FAO 230.
Three-line, mid-season hybrid. Designed for growing for grain and silage. For the 2019-2021 testing period, the average grain yield was 119 c/ha, the maximum – 141 c/ha – was obtained at the Shchuchinsky GSU in 2020.
The average grain moisture at harvest is 29.3%. Grain yield is 77.4%, weight of 1000 grains is 326 g. The grain contains 9.24% protein, 69.35% starch. The yield per hectare is 9.1 centners of protein, 67.8 centners of starch. When grown for silage, average the yield of dry matter over the years of testing was 209 c/ha, the maximum - 288 c/ha was obtained at the State Agricultural Institution "Nesvizh SS" in 2020.
Permission for cultivation:
- for grain: Br, Gm, Mn
- for silage: R

Advantages and Innovations
The average dry matter content in green mass is 32.5%. The protein content in the dry matter of green mass is 8.07%, the yield of protein per hectare is 14.4 c. The hybrid has fast starting growth and a high rate of accumulation of vegetative mass in the initial period of development.

Additional comments
The Institute is one of the leading in the Republic of Belarus in the selection of corn and sunflower, is engaged in the creation of varieties of annual and perennial fodder grasses using traditional breeding methods, reproduction and obtaining original seeds. Particular attention is paid to the optimization of technologies for the cultivation of cereals, legumes, corn, sunflower, annual and perennial fodder grasses in specific soil and climatic zones of the Polessian zone.
The main directions of scientific and practical activity of the enterprise "Polessian Institute of Plant Growing" is the introduction of new competitive varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops in the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Belarus and the development of scientifically based and economically justified technologies for their cultivation, as well as:
- Creation of productive, high-quality varieties and hybrids of corn, sunflower, perennial grasses, cereals and vegetables using traditional breeding methods.
- Improvement of farming systems, taking into account the specific soil and climatic zones of the region, providing an economically viable crop of crop products, preserving soil fertility.
- Improvement of existing and development of new cost-effective technologies for growing and harvesting fodder crops.
- Optimization of technologies for the production of crop products, allowing the maximum realization of the genetic potential of plants in specific soil and climatic zones of the Gomel region areas while minimizing resource costs.
