Summary
The Institute of Radiobiology offers customers services in the use of methods for long-term forecasting of the radiation situation for various situations under a license agreement, as well as the development of software products, geoinformation systems for modeling the radiation situation, survey, monitoring and modeling of the content of radioactive substances in environmental objects under an outsourcing agreement and is looking for partners to conclude a distribution sevices agreement.
Description
The scope of application is radiation protection of humans and biota in areas affected by emergency releases of radioactive substances into the environment, decision support systems for the rehabilitation of natural areas in areas of radioactive contamination, support for management decisions in the aftermath of emergency situations with releases of radioactive substances into the environment, design of radiation hazardous facilities in terms of use in environmental impact assessment models.
The methodology is implemented in the format of a cross-platform software product in the Python language with an open architecture. The software product can be integrated into decision support systems in the field of radiation safety and radioecology, and can be expanded to solve specific customer problems. The model parameters can be adapted to natural and climatic conditions different from those for which the methodology was developed.
The forecast is based on the results of long-term radioecological monitoring in the Belarusian sector of the Chernobyl NPP exclusion zone and modeling of the horizontal transfer of 137Cs and 241Am with solid and liquid runoff over the catchment area of a closed reservoir. The model is based on the approach of spatially resolved modeling of erosion and sediment removal from the catchment area. This approach is based on the description of the processes of formation of water flows on the catchment surface during precipitation, floods and other weather events accompanied by the movement of water masses on the surface. It takes into account the processes of soil erosion and redeposition of soil particles, the formation of stream flows and the transfer of particles and dissolved substances into them.
Information is posted in the "Album of Promising Developments of Organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the Real Sector of the Economy" (2023), pp. 359-360. (in Russian)

Advantages and Innovations
The main advantages over competitors are the use of a large volume of radioecological observation data in areas with high levels of radioactive contamination for parameterization and validation of the methodology, the designation for natural and climatic conditions with a moderate climate in Europe, the model is implemented in the format of a ready-made software product with an API for integration into higher-level information and analytical systems.
A minimum set of initial parameters is required to perform model calculations. Calculations can be performed on modern PCs with Windows, Linux or Mac OS.
A forecast of changes in the radiation situation in the Perstok Lake basin in the Belarusian sector of the Chernobyl NPP exclusion zone has been made in the interests of the State Nature Protection Research Institution "Polesie State Radiation and Ecological Reserve". The forecast is used in planning scientific research and monitoring work carried out in the Belarusian sector of the Chernobyl NPP exclusion zone, which has improved the representativeness of the data obtained and increased the efficiency of work on laying experimental objects in the catchments of closed water bodies.
The use of the development is not associated with any risks of deteriorating safety.
