Summary
The Institute of Microbiology offers consumers services for depositing typical and industrially valuable strains of microorganisms, providing microorganisms for research in the field of industrial biotechnology under an outsourcing agreement, and is looking for partners to form and develop a collection under a distribution services agreement.
Description
The Belarusian Collection of Industrially Valuable Microorganisms is the central depository of typical and industrially valuable strains of microorganisms in the Republic of Belarus. The collection is included in the register of objects constituting the national heritage of the country (Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated June 11, 2002 No. 758), and is part of the World Federation of Cultural Collections (the collection's acronym is BIM, number is 909). The DNA Bank stores high-quality standardized samples of the genetic material of strains-producers of economically important compounds to meet the needs of developers and manufacturers of biotechnological products. The availability of an electronic information retrieval database containing structured information about deposited cultures and DNA samples of industrially valuable microorganisms makes it possible to make a targeted selection of microbial resources with desired properties, and reasonably plan research and development in the field of industrial biotechnologies.
More information about the collection and the possibilities of depositing and searching for microorganisms can be found here.
