Summary
A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the NAS of Belarus offers consumers a testing the resistance of materials and structures to impact loads on a ballistic installation under an outsourcing agreement or subcontracting.
Description
A.V.Luikov Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of the NAS of Belarus has developed and put into operation a unique magnetoplasma light-gas throwing installation (ballistic installation), designed to test various materials and structures for impact resistance in vacuum, to test spacecraft anti-meteorite protection and to study the processes of high-speed interaction of bodies.
Balls with a diameter of 2.5–5 mm are used as strikers. Ballistic installation allows you to overclock balls up to a speed of 3 km/s.
The ballistic installation is equipped with a diagnostic complex for studying the processes of interaction of single high-speed particles with various targets, which includes a high-speed Photron Fastcam SA-Z camera with a maximum shooting frequency of 2.1 million frames per second, a 4-channel digital oscilloscope with a bandwidth of 1000 MHz, electrocontact time-of-flight velocity sensor of projectile particles.
The ballistic installation is widely used in the aviation, rocket and space industry, energy, materials science.
The Institute offers partners:
* testing the resistance of materials and structures to impact loads on a ballistic installation under an outsourcing agreement or subcontract;
* testing the resistance of materials and structures to impact loads on a ballistic installation under a distribution services agreement.

Advantages and Innovations
Modification of the ballistic installation (replacement of the acceleration channel with a Laval nozzle) makes it possible to obtain hypersonic flows in order to visualize and diagnose the hypersonic flow around bodies.
Compared to foreign analogues, the installation has a relatively small size, has a high survivability, which can significantly reduce the cost and time of ballistic tests.

Comments regarding stage of development
On a ballistic installation, tests were carried out on the resistance of samples of heat-shielding coatings and multilayer structures of thermal protection of the landing module of the ExoMars project, samples of elements of the screen anti-meteorite protection of spacecraft, consisting of a duralumin substrate and a composite coating, plates made of aluminum alloys, polymethyl methacrylate and other targets.
