Summary
The Joint Institute for Nuclear and Energy Research offers the technology for processing liquid radioactive waste of complex radiochemical composition to consumers under a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Description
Based on the data obtained on the forms of occurrence of plutonium and americium radionuclides in decontamination solutions, a highly efficient technology for processing liquid radioactive waste (LRW) of complex radiochemical composition using oxidation, coprecipitation and microfiltration methods has been developed and implemented. LRW is generated during the operation of nuclear fuel cycle facilities, nuclear power plants, research nuclear installations, as well as when using radioisotope products in medicine, industry, and scientific research. Their significant environmental hazard requires costly measures to ensure safe storage, processing, curing and final isolation.

The development was introduced during the decommissioning of the spent nuclear fuel storage facility of the Pamir-630D mobile NPP. About 6 thousand liters of LRW were processed, a high concentration coefficient was achieved, which made it possible to significantly reduce the costs of isolating solidified radioactive waste.
Advantages and Innovations
The technology can be adapted for LRW of various radiochemical compositions. In terms of technological indicators, it corresponds to the best world sorption-membrane technologies for processing LRW containing transuranic radionuclides.
