Summary
The Institute of Applied Physics offers consumers an eddy current flaw detector FD-1 for detecting defects in the form of cracks located on the surface of steel or cast iron products under a manufacturing agreement and is looking for partners to conclude a distribution services agreement.
Description
The FD-1 eddy current flaw detector (in Russian) is designed to detect defects in the form of cracks located on the surface of steel or cast iron products.
The FD-1 device allows detecting defects in the form of cracks, hairlines, accumulations of pores with a low class of surface cleanliness of the controlled product, as well as in the presence of paint, putty or other protective dielectric coating on it.
The FD-1 device consists of an electronic unit and an attachable pencil-type eddy current transducer connected to it, which has a wear-resistant contact surface. Control is carried out in the process of scanning the surface of the product, while automation of the scanning process is possible. The presence of a defect under the transducer is indicated by a light and sound alarm.
Warranty period of operation 12 months. The Institute carries out warranty and post-warranty maintenance of FD-1 devices.

Specifications:

Minimum sizes of detectable artificial defects with cleanliness of the controlled surface RZ no more than 5 (width x depth x length)
0.01×0.1×5mm
 Time of continuous work not less than  12 hours
 Powered by built-in rechargeable battery
 Overall dimensions of the electronic unit  100x195x45 mm
 Mass of the electronic unit  0.2 kg

Areas of application - mechanical engineering.

Additional comments
The main scientific fields of the Institute:
- Physics of non-destructive testing;
- Development of methods and means of non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics of materials, products and technological processes;
- Creation of scientific foundations of information technologies for non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics.

Non-destructive testing methods developed at the institute:
- Methods of ultrasonic flaw detection, structuroscopy, thickness measurement of surface hardened layers;
- Capillary control method;
- Pulse magnetic control method;
- Methods of magnetic thickness measurement of coatings;
- Thermopower method;
- Eddy current methods of flaw detection and structuroscopy;
- Method of magnetic noise structuroscopy;
- Methods for monitoring the magnetic characteristics of soft magnetic materials, magnetic fields and residual magnetization;
- Methods of radio wave flaw detection, structuroscopy, thickness measurement;
- Contact-dynamic method for monitoring the physical and mechanical characteristics of materials;
- Methods of image reconstruction in x-ray tomography.

Solved applied tasks:
- Control of defects in the continuity of parts, blanks and structural elements (defectoscopy);
- Control of the structure and physical and mechanical characteristics of materials;
- Control of the geometric parameters of products, coatings and surface hardened layers;
- Control of the stress-strain state of metal structures;
- Technical diagnostics of objects.

Applied developments of the institute are characterized by a wide range of scientific and technical problems to be solved, which are of a diversified nature, and the developed modern methods and means of non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics are used in energy, space technology, metallurgy, auto, tractor and agricultural engineering, motor building, construction , welding industry, electronics, petrochemistry, railway and road transport, pipeline transport, bridge building, aircraft building, repair services, utilities, medicine, sports, forensics, etc.

The institute has two laboratories accredited by the State Standard of the Republic of Belarus: a testing laboratory for non-destructive testing and a verification laboratory.

Objects of control - Parts, blanks, castings, rolled products, forgings, welded joints, building and other structures made of metal, concrete, plastics, composite materials, pipelines, boilers, tanks, metal structures of hoisting and transport machines, products made of rubber materials, foundations, road coatings, machines and mechanisms, electrical machines, etc.

The Institute of Applied Physics is the only academic institute both in the Republic of Belarus and abroad that specializes in the field of physics of non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics. The results of research on the development of the scientific foundations of the theory of magnetism, electromagnetic, ultrasonic, radio wave, contact-dynamic, capillary and other methods of non-destructive testing brought fame to the institute. Scientists of the institute have created dozens of new types of methods and means of control, protected by copyright certificates and patents from the leading countries of the world, introduced at many industrial enterprises of the republic and abroad. The Institute maintains active international relations, being one of the founders of the World Federation of Non-Destructive Testing Centers (the headquarters of the World Federation is located in the USA). Representatives of the Institute traditionally head the Belarusian Association of Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics, which is part of the European Federation of Non-Destructive Testing (EFNDT).
