Summary
Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry offers consumers new highly efficient, mechanically strong and chemically resistant polymer membranes and filter elements for the separation of liquid media under a manufacturing agreement and is seeking partners interested in a distribution services agreement.
Description
Applications - preparation of water for drinking and technical needs, wastewater treatment, separation of liquid media in biotechnology, chemical, pharmaceutical, food and other industries, sterilization of food products and medicines, clarification of beverages, cell concentration, plasmapheresis, processing of milk and whey in the dairy industry.

MIFIL ultrafiltration membranes are anisotropic porous films with a thin (0.5–5.0 μm) active layer resting on a large-pore base made of the same polymer material. Membranes can be made on the basis of various polymers and have a nominal molecular weight cutoff limit of 5 ÷ 300 kDa. The membrane is applied to a reinforcing substrate made of non-woven polyester, which gives it the necessary set of mechanical characteristics. The asymmetric structure ensures high filtration performance and retention of dissolved substances. Hollow fiber membranes have a nominal molecular weight cutoff limit of 10 ÷ 300 kDa and are hollow fibers with a wall thickness of 0.20–0.25 mm and an internal diameter of 0.9–1.0 mm. The fiber wall is characterized by an anisotropic structure and a high degree of porosity, which ensures high specific productivity and mechanical strength.

The information can be found on the Institute's website in the section "Polymer membranes for separation of aqueous media MIFIL" and also is posted in  Album of promising developments of the NAS of Belarus organizations for the real sector of the economy (2023), p. 163-164. (in Russian)
Advantages and Innovations
The developed membrane materials in the form of flat sheets and hollow fibers are characterized by increased resistance to contamination during filtration, hydrophilicity, high mechanical strength and an optimal combination of permeability and selectivity.

It provides a replacement for imported products: flat membranes and elements based on them manufactured by Microdyn-Nadir (Germany), Cobbeter (People's Republic of China), Synder (USA), RM Nanotech (Russian Federation), Alfa Laval (Denmark), Millipore (USA); hollow fiber membranes and elements manufactured by KOCH Separation solutions (USA), Hydranautics (USA), Nitto Group Company (Japan), Inge (Germany), X-Flow-Pentair (Netherlands), Toray Industries (USA), Norit Membrane Technologies (Netherlands).

The developed membranes and membrane elements are safe for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries. It is possible to manufacture membrane modules in a sanitary design.

The advantages of using the developed membranes include the absence of phase transitions, low energy consumption, relative simplicity of the hardware design, virtually reagent-free operation, the possibility of combining with other separation processes, ease of scaling and a high degree of automation.

The production of cassette, roll and hollow fiber membrane elements has been established by orders of industrial enterprises. It is possible to develop new types of membranes for a specific separation task.

Additional comments
The Institute is a world leader in the development, production and use of ion-exchange fibrous materials and artificial substrates for plant cultivation. The Institute's work in the field of membranes and membrane technologies is widely known. Membrane materials for ultra- and microfiltration in the form of continuous webs and capillaries, cassette, roll and hollow fiber elements for use in energy, food, pharmaceutical, electronic and other industries have been developed and manufactured.

The Institute's scientists have discovered and studied the reactions of: heterocyclization of azomethines with carbonyl compounds, hydroamination of oxygen-containing compounds, initiated decarboxylation of mercury acylates, construction of an isothiazole cycle from 2-nitropentachlorobutadiene and sulfur. Convenient methods for synthesizing benzoquinolines, amines, pyridines, organomercury compounds, electrochemical methods for obtaining p-complexes of transition metals, methods for synthesizing various functional substituted organohalogen compounds, carboranes and peroxides have been developed.

The catalysts developed at the Institute have been implemented at the largest chemical plants. An antiblock composition preventing cellophane film from sticking together during its production has been implemented on an industry-wide scale. An industrial radiation-chemical technology for obtaining the blood plasma substitutes "Rondeks" and "Neorondex" has been developed.

The Institute's activities are aimed at developing scientific principles and technologies for creating new polymeric materials with special properties (selectively permeable, sorption, ion-exchange, catalytically active) for use in industry, ecology, agriculture, water treatment; development of methods for the synthesis and technologies for obtaining medicinal substances based on amino acids and their derivatives, biologically active substances and compositions for medicine and agriculture, functionally substituted organic and organoelement compounds.

The Institute carries out international scientific and technical cooperation within the framework of direct agreements with scientific institutions of Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Sweden, China, etc. Much attention is paid to the implementation of contracts for the conduct of research and development work and the manufacture of high-tech commercial products based on its own developments with organizations and firms in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Korea, Russia, and the USA.
