Additional comments
The main objective of the Institute is to conduct fundamental and applied scientific research in the field of developing scientifically based measures aimed at preserving and rationally using the natural resource potential of the Polesie region.
Research areas:
- Agrobiology. Scientific substantiation of the main elements of the technology of cultivating forage crops, including non-traditional ones, and the formation of highly productive environment-stabilizing phytocenoses in agroecologically problematic areas of Western Polesie agrolandscapes, taking into account modern climate change;
- Biogeochemistry and Ecotoxicology. Study of the migration of xenobiotics (compounds alien to living organisms that do not enter into either plastic or energy metabolism in the cell) in ecological systems, mechanisms for including them in natural cycles, as well as the consequences of changes in natural flows of substances in the biosphere - disruption of the ecological balance and transformation of elements of the biosphere, reduction of biodiversity, risk to human health. The main efforts are aimed at studying the impact of heavy metals on biotic and abiotic components of ecosystems, as well as studying their biological and ecological fate;
- Optimization of ecosystems. Intensification of innovative approaches to the protection and interactive use of landscape-biological diversity and agro-economic potential of the Polesie region in the interests of sustainable development and improving the quality of life of people. Promotion of environmental and socio-economic innovations in the framework of the implementation of local sustainable development strategies and local projects of the "green" economy of the Belarusian Polesie;
- Hydroecology and Ecotechnology. Assessment of the quality of water (drinking, surface and waste); numerous projects are being implemented on standardization in the field of water protection and use, as well as waste recycling, scientific research is being conducted in current and promising areas related to improving the quality of water in our region, minimizing the threats of their pollution;
- Feed quality. Analysis of the implementation of technological regulations and standards by organizations of the agro-industrial complex in the production of agricultural products.
Within the framework of international collaborations and projects, research is conducted in various scientific areas in ecology, soil science, zoology and botany, hydrology, biogeochemistry and ecotoxicology, plant physiology and biochemistry, and in the field of agricultural sciences.
The composition and areas of activity of the laboratories can be found in the Institute's brochure here. (in Russian)
