Summary
SSPA of Powder Metallurgy offers consumers the production and supply of products from magnesium alloys on the basis of a production agreement and/or the sale of their production technology with warranty and post-warranty service for the relevant technological processes, as well as the possible improvement of the sold technology at the buyer's production facility on the basis of a commercial agreement with technical support.
Description
Magnesium alloys have a number of unique physical and chemical properties, the main ones being low density and high strength, which allows for the production of products and structures from materials with the addition of magnesium that have high strength characteristics (σВ = 400–500 MPa) at a relatively low density (1.74 g/cm3), good resistance to air, alkalis, gas environments containing fluorine and mineral oils.
Scope - Aerospace, automotive, military, etc.
The technologies being developed are a new direction for the foundry production of non-ferrous metals and light alloys in the Republic of Belarus. The release of such products in our country allows us to successfully resolve import substitution issues.
Developer and manufacturer - OHP «Research Institute of Pulse Processes with Pilot Production» (Minsk), (in Russian) of the "O. V. Roman" Institute of Powder Metallurgy.
Information is posted in the Album of promising developments of organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the real sector of the economy (2023) (in Russian), p. 124-125.

Advantages and Innovations
One of the notable properties of magnesium alloys, which stimulates their use as a structural material, is their high specific strength.
As a result of the analysis of pilot industrial developments and operational tests of magnesium alloy parts in cars, tractors, electric motors in construction and municipal vehicles, tools and other products, it was determined that when replacing aluminum alloy castings with magnesium ones, the cost savings of parts are 10-15%.
The cost of producing magnesium parts, especially when casting under pressure, is lower than aluminum ones, due to higher productivity due to a higher (approximately 50%) casting speed and a long service life of molds.
There is an advantage in their operation, which is achieved mainly due to a decrease in weight per unit of power, which will increase the competitiveness of magnesium as a structural material.
The development of a special technology for melting magnesium alloys with the possibility of a closed cycle of melting and pouring magnesium melt into a chill mold in an inert gas environment, as well as pressure casting in an inert environment, make the processes environmentally friendly.
An important criterion for choosing a material when manufacturing products by casting is their casting properties, such as fluidity and solidification characteristics. The speed of casting magnesium under pressure is 30-50% higher than that of aluminum. Due to the good solubility of iron in aluminum, the casting is "welded" to the mold with its destruction, so before each pouring the mold must be lubricated or painted. The solubility of iron in magnesium is low, and when casting it, the above-mentioned disadvantages are absent.
Mechanical processing of magnesium castings is cheaper, since it is carried out at significantly higher cutting speeds, with lower energy consumption, less wear of the tool, etc.
