News from RCTT Office at Sino-Russian Technopark in Chanchung

A delegation of the State Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus visited the Jilin Province of China from 26 October to 17 November 2008. The group of Belarusian specialists was headed by Ms. Tamara Yanchevskaya, Manager of the RCTT Office at the Sino-Russian Technopark in Chanchung. The visit had been organized by the aforementioned RCTT Office in compliance with the agreement promoted by RCTT and made last year between the Research Institute of Vegetable and Flower Growing of the Jilin Province (Chancung) and the State Institute of Experimental Botany.

During the stay in China, the Belarusian botanists studied the organizational setup of the Chancung institute and its main research lines. Ms Yanchevskaya made her presentation on the principles of the the perennial ionitoponic potato mini-bulb growing technology  (developed by the Laboratory for Optimization of Mineral Nutrition and Photosynthesis of the State Institute of Experimental Botany of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus). In order to expedite the process of application of the advanced Belarusian method among potato-growing enterprises in China, Belarusian and Chinese researchers joined their efforts on testing of the Trion® ionitoponic substrate (another invention of the Laboratory for Optimization of Mineral Nutrition and Photosynthesis) and succeeded in obtaining seedlings of the locally adapted potato stems.

The two research institutes agreed of further collaboration and signing the second-stage service contract. Belarusian researchers received a formal request of publication in the specialized journal Vegetable Growing in China.

During the visit the Belarusians met Mr. Li Changhua, Director-General of the Sino-Russian Technopark in Chanchung. The parties took up the Technopark’s opportunities for office and production premise rent to the would-be Sino-Belarusian joint venture. The JV is to accommodate a site for production of the Trion® substrate. The formalities are expected to be settled by the end of the year, when Mr. Li Changhua comes to Minsk.
