The second session of the Joint Commission of Belarus and South Africa for Collaboration in the Science and Technology Field took place in Minsk on 16 March 2007. Director of RCTT A.A. Uspenskiy took part in the meeting. The Belarusian party was headed by Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Belarusian part of the Committee Mr. I.V. Voytov. The group of the South African representatives was headed by Director-General of the Ministry of Science and Technologies Mr. Philemon Mjvara.
In the course of its session the Committee took up the outcomes of the Executive Programme of Collaboration in the Area of Science and Technology in 2004 – 2006. The Committee also considered the draft sequel collaboration programme for period 2007 - 2010.
The both parties emphasized that the measures taken under the Executive Programme in 2004 - 2006 had contributed to the development of the two countries’ science and technology collaboration. Thus, in particular, in August 2006, during the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of South Africa there were the following covenants signed:
Also, on 22 - 26 September 2006 a Belarusian delegation took part in the Insite-2006 International Exhibition in Johannesburg. On 4 November 2006, the general prospects for the scientific and technical collaboration of Belarus and South Africa were taken up during the visit of the governmental delegation of the Republic of South Africa (headed by the Minister of State Enteprises Mr A. Erwin) to the Republic of Belarus.
The draft version of the Executive Programme of Collaboration in the Area of Science and Technology for period 2007 - 2010 provides for further development of the co-activity, particularly, in such sectors as biotechnology, medicine and pharmacy, nanotechnology, new materials and new energy sources, technology transfer. There were several amendments suggested in concern with the would-be Executive Programme. The parties will finalize the document with the due account of these proposals and sign it upon completion, at the both parties’ convenience.
There was a relevant protocol signed on the results of the session.
